Compass Health's Pinocchio Program is provided within the Ferguson-Florissant School District. Services are designed for early detection and intervention of school adjustment difficulties in children enrolled in kindergarten through third grade. The goal of the program is to detect mild to moderate school adjustment difficulties early, to help children develop a school-based, trusting relationship with an adult who can support them in their efforts to cope with social, environmental, and school adjustment difficulties, and to enhance learning skills. The benefits of the program include reduction of negative adjustment behaviors, improvement in children’s self-confidence, social skills, learning skills and other school-related competencies, and to allow school mental health professionals to focus on children who need more intensive interventions. Children who have mild to moderate school adjustment concerns are seen once a week by a master's level behavioral health professional, a Pinocchio associate, for thirty minutes in individual sessions and/or forty-five minute group sessions.
